2005 Copain "McDowell Valley" Mendocino County Syrah

SKU #1187673 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

His 2005 Syrah McDowell Valley (from vines planted in both 1911 and 1945) exhibits similar intensity, with a saturated ruby/purple color and notes of bacon fat, blueberry, and blackberry as well as a hint of licorice. It is medium to full-bodied, soft, with silky tannins and good freshness. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. (12/2007)

Deep ruby. An expressive, spicy bouquet comprises strawberry, redcurrant, cinnamon and nutmeg, plus hints of tobacco, graphite and raw meat. Vibrant red fruits on the palate, deepening with air and taking a turn toward cherry, with brisk minerality giving lift and focus. Finishes on a sweet kirsch note, with impressive energy and persistence. This was fermented with 50% whole clusters. (5/2007)
