The 2008 Red Wine Napa Valley is a huge, plush wine bursting with dark fruit, smoke, ash and licorice. Today the tannins are firm and quite imposing, but the wine develops nicely in the glass, hinting at what is to come over the next handful of years. Floral notes add perfume and brightness on the finish. This is a very beautiful, brooding wine graced with considerable class and personality. (AG) 93+

Good ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet and minerals. Energetic on entry, then tight in the middle, with a strong spice character to the dark berry and licorice flavors. Sexy but youthfully backward wine, with excellent structure for the year. The finish is firm but not hard. (ST) 93+

K&L Notes
The winemaking duo of Martha McClellan and Bob Levy are a pair of legends in the Napa Valley. According to Robert Parker: "You couldn’t ask for two more impressive resumes as those of the husband and wife team of Martha McClellan and Bob Levy. McClellan, who oversees this project as well as being the consultant for an up and coming small estate called Checkerboard as well as Sloan, is complemented by her husband Bob Levy, who has been at Harlan Estate from the beginning of that project in the late eighties. These barrel-fermented wines, which emerge from their 6-acre estate vineyard on Diamond Mountain, are made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot included in the blend."
