Vinous
The 2012 Beaune Clos des Couchereaux is one of the most seamless and silky of the seven Beaune 1er Crus I tasted for this article. Creamy, generous and supple, the 2012 is endowed with gorgeous depth and richness. Here, too, the fruit is dark and very ripe, but at the same time, the Clos is a bit less opulent than the distinctly racy Cras. Firm tannins give the Beaune Clos des Couchereaux a sense of energy that supports the fruit and adds to the wine's considerable appeal. (AG)

Notes of menthol, dark cherry, earth and subtle anise hints serve as a complex introduction to the generously proportioned, concentrated and relatively powerful middle weight flavors. The supporting structure is not quite as imposing but it's still notably firm on the solidly persistent and complex finish. Lovely.

Good bright, deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and flowers. Not as sweet or creamy as the Cras but plenty supple all the same, with ripe acidity giving the wine good inner-mouth lift. Finishes with broad, suave, fine-grained tannins and enticing stony minerality. (ST)

K&L Notes
Situated high on the Montagne de Beaune, this site has shallow topsoils and a fine minerality, and its Southern exposure gives iit power.
