We have long resisted adding a Chilean or Argentinean sparkling wine to our ever crowded sparkling wine section. Nothing against the wines, but we have simply found that in a field of delicious, high value contenders from France, Spain, Italy, and of course California, we did not find anything that presented as much value for the price. Enter Apaltagua, a winery whose sparkling is original in that it combines Chardonnay with Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that excels in the cooler climate locales and highly granitic soils of Chile's San Antonio Valley. This is a delicious bubbly, with crisp, bright, citric and yellow fruits. Very fresh, fun and highly gulpable sparkling wine that once again proves that Chile is ready to take lots of folks by surprise with the ever improving quality of their wines.
