1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (high-mid shoulder fill)

SKU #1166788 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark My God, this is a wonderful mature Lafite. Served blind chez Rosemary George MW it has a definable Pauillac nose with subtle notes of cedar, sous-bois and a touch of dried blood. It has incredible harmony and purity – a bouquet that has you instantly captivated. The palate does not disappoint: a beguiling sense of natural harmony and delineation, not the weight of Latour nor the femininity of Margaux, but a Lafite aiming for understated sophistication. Delicate cedar and cigar box towards the finish that just goes on and on. This bottle vindicates my first encounter in Bordeaux, when it similarly bewitched its audience. Absolutely sublime. A point. Tasted April 2008. (Neil Martin's Wine Journal) Inner quote mark (7/2008)

K&L Notes

Clive Coates: "Very good vigorous full colour. Much more vigorous that the 1970. Much richer and more stylish too. Very elegant fruit on the nose. On the palate this also shows a little age, like the 1967 and 1970. But it is the richest, ripest and plumpest of the three. Good concentrated fruit. Fatter than the 1970. Much more elegance. Long but not that intense or concentrated. Very good indeed, but not a great 1966." (Tasted from Magnum - 1992) (Grand Vins: The Finest Châteaux of Bordeaux and Their Wines, pg. 52)
