2010 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva

SKU #1165741 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2010 Chianti Classico Reserva Rancia is chiseled and focused. It offers a full spectrum of Sangiovese characteristics with balsamic herb and medicinal tones followed by crushed stone and delicate clove or nutmeg. Rancia is equally impressive in the mouth with firm structure and enduring fruit flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. This is one of the nicest collections of new releases by Giuseppe Mazzocolin’s Felsina. At the edge of the Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi denominations, the estate counts 475 hectares, of which 61 are planted with vineyard. (ML) (8/2013)

(100% sangiovese): Bright, fully saturated red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, minerals, sweet spices and violet; the most ethereal nose of any Rancia since the 2006 vintage. Juicy, pure and precise if youthfully tight, offering lovely inner-mouth energy and perfume to the complex flavors of red berries enlivened by orange peel, sweet spices and flowers. Finishes very long and brisk, with juicy acidity that leaves the taste buds vibrating. An absolute beauty, and much less marked by the tobacco, tar and inky notes that have characterized some recent Rancia vintages. For example, even though 2009 and 2010 are both potentially outstanding vintages for Chianti Classico, there is simply no comparison between this wine and the Rancia 2009. (ID) (9/2014)

95 points Vinous

The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is cool, inward and reserved at this stage. Much less expressive than it was from barrel, today the 2010 appears to be in a closed phase. There is so much tension in the glass, though, and I can hardly wait to see where the 2010 goes over the coming years. A burst of mineral and floral infused fruit lingers on the polished, nuanced finish. Today, the 2010 seems to bring together the finesse of 2004 with the structure and power of the 2010. A pretty magical combination, if you ask me. (AG) 95+ (8/2013)

93 points Wine Enthusiast

This wine from one of Chianti Classico’s leading producers is still young but already stunning. It’s loaded with blue flower, black cherry, black pepper, leather and balsamic sensations alongside a solid tannic back bone. Elegant and reserved, it still needs time to develop fully. Drink 2015–2025. (KO) (4/2014)

91 points Wine Spectator

This long version is packed with sweet cherry, mulberry and spice flavors and backed by dense, muscular tannins. Begs for time and food. Best from 2015 through 2025. (BS) (10/2013)

90 points Decanter

Of ample depth and breadth, with almost raisined dark fruit partnering notes of mushroom, meat and tobacco. Intriguing and forthright. (Panel Tasting) (5/2019)

One of Chianti Classico's most important wineries and their most important Chianti. I love the Rancia's richness, structure and captivating aromatics and persistence. However what really sets this wine apart is its aging potential. If you've been lucky as I have to taste many older vintages this wine blossoms into something truly special. It is at this stage the wine's pedigree shows and its tremendous complexity. Then this is the 2010 vintage....it's great! Don't wait.
Drink from 2015 to 2035
