2012 Back Nine Cellars Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1155359

This Cabernet Sauvignon was made by a prominent winemaker, formerly of one of St. Helena's most prestigious properties. This is a stunning example of 2012 Rutherford Cabernet. It is a big wine with tons of round and supple tannins covered by layers of toasty oak and chocolate flavors. Like the 2009 Bordeaux wines, the fruit in the 2012 Napa Cabs covers the tannins. This wine will age for 20 years, easily. Perfect balance and long, lingering finish. Cassis and red fruits abound here. Decant 2 hours now and serve with a big steak. Dark fruit, blackcurrant, cassis and touch of mocha and spice with just enough "Rutherford Dust" and grip to keep it from showing overly ripe. There is a freshness to this wine that I like, it has more drive than some Napa Valley floor wines I have encountered. At this price it's a pretty serious value considering its origin and the reputation of the property that produced it. This delivers a lot of authentic Rutherford flavors at a pretty modest price point.

Plush, classic Rutherford dusty fruit, well structured yet easy drinking, this is a steal for 100% Napa Valley Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon!

Our first Cabernet from the fantastic 2012 vintage. This venerable Napa winery is in the heart of Cabernet country. Cassis and red fruit aromas mix with some oak and licorice. So smooth on the palate, it tastes great now, but will age well for 10-plus years. Like the 2009 Bordeaux, this wine has so much fruit, it masks the ample, round tannins. Long, lingering finish. A vibrant wine to serve with a rack of lamb or veal chop.
