This is a winery with obviously tremendous potential, much of it unrealized, but I must say that the 2005 Proprietary Red Magnificat is outstanding and one of the more reasonably priced wines in Napa. A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Malbec and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis, cedar wood, licorice and a touch of mocha. It is medium to full-bodied, seemingly fully mature, but certainly capable of lasting another ten years. This is a sexy wine from Franciscan Estate, and I’m happy to see that. (RP) (6/2015)
