1975 Canon, St-Emilion

SKU #1152338 90 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark This most recent magnum of 1975 Canon was generously served by the team at the château after one of the recent En Primeur events held there. The wine is a very pretty example of the vintage, but ’75 is not quite as good in St. Émilion as it was in neighboring Pomerol, so this wine is in the good, but not great category of Canon vintages. The bouquet offers up a lovely and quite mature blend of roasted cherries, nutty tones, coffee, woodsmoke, heather, chalky soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex and beautifully balanced, with a sound core, melting tannins and lovely focus and grip on the classy finish. Good juice, but in the quantum physics of Canon, great vintages travel at a higher energy level. (Drink between 2012-2030) Inner quote mark (5/2016)

Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Seems to need a bit more bottle age. Aromas of berries and licorice, medium body and ripe flavors. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years.--Canon vertical. (JS) Inner quote mark (4/1995)
