Sleek and racy, with a beautiful structure of very fine tannins and ripe fruit. There are minerals, currants and berries throughout, yet it's subtle and caressing. Lovely wine. I like this as much as the 2000. (JS)

Philippe Dhalluin remembers tasting this vintage on his first day at Mouton. A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2001 Clerc Milon has a much fresher, more vital nose than the 2000 with dark berry fruit, clove and bay leaf notes. It has fine definition and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, good grip and plenty of weight and dimension towards the slightly rustic finish. All in all, this is an impressive Pauillac in terms of length and power and should continue to drink well for a decade. Drink now-2025. (NM)

Ruby-red. Ripe aromas of licorice, bitter chocolate, roasted herbs, tar and exotic spices. Supple, round and pliant, with redcurrant, licorice and herbal flavors. Finishes with surprisingly sweet tannins nicely buffered by the wine's fat. A very good showing for this wine. (ST)

Quite pale mid red. Curiously ripe on the nose. Fresh, vigorous on the palate -- just medium weight but complete and satisfactory. Long and well balanced. Bright fruit. Long term. 17/20 points. (JR)
