2010 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

SKU #1148701 98 points James Suckling

A wine with great beauty and finesse. Such elegance and ethereal quality for this estate. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy delicious finish. Long and beautiful. This is the best Lynch in a long, long time. I love the precision here. (11/2013)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2010 Lynch Bages is an absolutely brilliant wine, and somewhat reminiscent at this stage in its development of the profound 1989. Jean-Charles Cazes, who took over for his father a number of years ago, has produced a magnificent wine with the classic creme de cassis note intermixed with smoke, graphite and spring flowers. It is a massive Lynch Bages, full-bodied and very 1989-ish, with notable power, loads of tannin, and extraordinary concentration and precision. This is not a Lynch Bages to drink in its exuberant youth, but one to hold on to for 5-6 years and drink over the following three decades. (RP) (2/2013)

96 points Wine Enthusiast

This sumptuous wine is driven by perfectly ripe fruit as well as dense, dusty and dry tannins. Great swathes of blackberry sweep across the palate, followed by juicy acidity. Such a combination will make this impressive wine a delight to drink in 10 years and beyond. *Cellar Selection* (RV) (2/2013)

96 points Wine Spectator

Roasted cedar, tobacco and bay leaf notes start off this structured but lively bottling, with intense currant, blackberry and black cherry flavors at the core. The iron-laced grip and pleasantly austere plum pit and licorice snap accents fill in on the tar-tinged finish. Great range, character and typicity. If you ever need to explain Pauillac to someone, give them this. (JM) (3/2013)

94 points Connoisseurs Guide

We confess to having a long love affair with this property and seem to find something to like in its wines in both good years and bad, but this bottling comes with no need for any kind of forgiveness, and it is a textbook example of what Lynch Bages does best. It is full-bodied, wonderfully concentrated and rife with cassis and cedar-like spice, and its ten-year tannins are beautifully buffered by extracted fruit. It is as sure a bet to grow into better as a sure bet can get. *Two Stars* (4/2013)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright ruby-red. Classic Pauillac aromas and flavors of cassis, black cherry, menthol, minerals and licorice lifted by a violet topnote. Intensely flavored and sharply delineated, with terrific fruit intensity to support its very bright acidity. This firmly structured, gripping wine is a bit dominated by its serious tannic spine today, but the dark berry fruit gained dramatically in creaminess with some time in the glass. Potentially one of the best vintages for this large property in many years. (ST) 92+ (8/2013)

Decanter

Very good concentration of Cabernet fruits, rich and earthy, vibrant, vigorous flavours and packed with energy, a wine that once again justifies this château's reputation. 18/20 points. (4/2011)

Jancis Robinson

Black cherry fruit – opulent, pure, defined, modern. Lovely tannic structure – very svelte, and entirely drinkable now. Gorgeous and moreish, with the concentration to develop much further. 17.5/20 points (RH) (11/2014)

K&L Notes

96 points Lisa Perotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Lynch Bages comes sailing out of the glass with notes of redcurrant jelly, black cherry compote and cassis plus wafts of smoked meats, tar, cigar box and dried roses. Full-bodied, the palate is stacked with red and black fruit layers, framed by ripe, firm, fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long." (3/2020)79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

This wine is just perfectly balanced. Although 2010s tend to be tannic and structured, this is a great example of the poise and balance that can be achieved in the vintage, and the amazing aging potential. Even though this was decanted for hours, it still showed very young. I'd love to taste this in about 10 years time. The first elements of savory development are just starting to creep in around the primary fruit, and the hard edges of tannin are just softening, but the overwhelming impression is one of power, structure, balance, and potential.

Yet another deep, clean and absolutely packed cellar candidate from this overachieving fifth growth. After an hour decanting the complex aromas of raspberries, mint, licorice, violets and spice begin to show the potential here. The body is concentrated and effortless, with the powerful middle of sweet cassis giving way to a long, dry finish of graphite-dusted and polished tannin. This is class in a glass.

Massive wine that will age gracefully for 30 more years. Packed with cedar oak and pencil shaving aromas. Cabernet at its best, but if you drink it soon, decant for 2 hours.

Tight and tannic with rich blackberry fruit. Long spice and black fruit on the finish.

One of my favorite Lynch-Bages in years. Lots of minerals, slate and velvety currants on the palate, with a firm backbone. Should age well.
