2010 Torrin "The Banshee" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1144464 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, the 2010 Banshee is showing every bit as spectacular from bottle as it did from barrel. Deeply fruited, with notions of blackberry, mineral, licorice and hints of flowers, it hits the palate with a full-bodied, seamless and elegant profile that builds in richness and depth with air. Loaded with fruit, yet also savory, complex and nuanced, with superb overall concentration, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and should see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink 2015-2030. All from the estate vineyard and a blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 10% Mourvedre, the 2010 Torrin The Banshee sports a richer, fuller profile with loads of black currant and blackberry styled aromas intermixing with licorice, ground pepper, and superb underlying minerality. Full-bodied and impeccably put together on the palate, with brilliant purity and masses of ripe tannin, this serious 2010 will need 2-3 years to integrate, and should age effortlessly for upwards of 15+ years. Inky ruby. Heady aromas of cassis, blueberry, pipe tobacco and lavender are expansive and strikingly precise. Dark berry flavors show superb depth and power but maintain freshness thanks to a bright mineral quality. Really stains the palate, finishing with sweet floral pastille notes and outstanding length. United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.

Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
