2011 Tenuta Sette Ponti "Crognolo" Toscana

SKU #1140151 95 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Impressive aromas of blackberries, currants and flowers follow to a full body with super fine tannins and a long, long finish. Super classy. Best ever Crognolo. Always great value. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Inner quote mark (9/2013)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2011 Crognolo (Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot) shows lush, thick lines and a dark garnet appearance. This is a delicious and well-crafted Tuscan red that offers the fruit-forward style and soft extraction that defines the best of Tuscan winemaking. Rich tannins and deep layers of ripe fruit, blackberry, leather, tobacco and chocolate wrap smoothly over the palate. The 2011 vintage offers an especially soft interpretation that is perfect for near-term drinking. You feel a pinch of that Sangiovese acidity on the close. (ML) Inner quote mark (9/2015)

90 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark This is Sangiovese enriched with a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It emphasizes umami undertones of smoke and earth, along with high notes of balsamic adding an edge to the black fruit. The structure feels traditional and strict, focused on pasta with boar ragù. Inner quote mark (4/2014)

90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Violet, black currant and cherry aromas highlight this lush, fruity red. Harmonious and well-structured, with a long finish of spice and tobacco. (BS) Inner quote mark (10/2013)

I've had this wine many time over the last decade but this vintage really surprised me, the flamboyant, flashy oak and sweet fruit was far less apparent and more complex flavors, better balance and in my opinion this is a more complete wine than I've had before. The wine still has dominant fruit aromatics and a supple texture on the palate, restrained in a positive way. Wonderful to drink now and will hold for years into the future.
Drink from 2013 to 2018
