K&L Notes

Located just south of the town of Yountville on the slopes of Howell Mountain in the Napa Valley, Burgess Cellars is one of the "old guard" of Napa Valley producers, first established in by 1972 Tom Burgess with a focus on terroir-driven, European-inspired winemaking. 2002 was the last vintage in which Burgess made "Enveire," a special edition production. According to Burgess: "On our 25th Anniversary, in 1997, we started making a wine called 'Enveiere' in celebration of our time here. Enveiere is a derivative of an old French word meaning, 'to send a message.' (Think envelope, envoy, etc.) So, as a wine, it is a message in a bottle. That message is just how powerful, elegant, bold, and full of character a Napa Valley hillside wine can be. We packaged this wine in tall, dark glass with a black label and gold writing with the Burgess hallmark on it. Enveiere proved awesome, winning friends and fans over with its style and beauty, however the name was too difficult for most to remember let alone spell! We made an Enveiere from 1997 to 2002, and then in 2005 rekindled the project with Estate Vineyards Reserve. Estate Vineyards Reserve and Enveiere have the same ring to it, and we still use the names interchangeably at the winery!"
