The first vintage to come mostly from the Torrin Vineyard, the 2010 The Maven is 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah sourced 66% from the Torrin Vineyard and 34% from James Berry. Still youthfully ruby-colored with a sumptuous nose of blackberries, gravelly minerality, scorched earth, and violets, it hits the palate with awesome purity, ultra-fine tannin, and perfect balance. While still young, it’s a joy to drink. It has another decade of longevity.

Inky ruby. Seductively perfumed nose displays black raspberry, pungent flowers and sexy oak spice. A sweet, silky midweight with deep dark berry flavors and hints of mocha and vanilla. This very attractive, open-knit blend offers an impressive blend of elegance and concentration, finishing long, sappy and gently tannic. (JR)

The 2010 The Maven opens with beautifully expressive Grenache aromatics. Layers of dark red fruit caress the palate as this generous, fleshy wine opens up to fill out its broad-shouldered frame. This is a decidedly powerful, masculine wine with plenty of personality. In 2010 the blend is 82% Grenache and 18% Syrah, mostly from Torrin, although 34% of the fruit came off Saxum's James Berry Vineyard. (AG)
