2010 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1133949 93 points Wine Enthusiast

This is an austere, structured wine. Its tannic framework currently dominates, giving the impression of a firm wine. It feels like classic Bordeaux, upright and dense. This makes for a wine that will need several years' aging. (5/2013)

92-93 points James Suckling

I love the mid-palate to this young and attractive red, with silky tannins and alluring mineral, berry and stone character. Enchanting. (4/2011)

92 points Wine Spectator

Dense, but supple along the edges, offering a packed core of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruit. The lovely licorice, dark tobacco and violet notes glide to the finish, which shows solid, latent grip. Best from 2015 through 2025. (3/2013)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Abundant notes of spicy oak, elegant black currants and rich fruitiness along with hints of forest floor and damp earth are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with sweet tannin and the classic Pessac-Leognan/Graves characteristics of tobacco leaf and smoke. Deep fruit, moderate tannin and a long finish give this wine enough potential to last for up to two decades or more. 90+ (RP) (2/2013)

After a few years of laying down, this wine is singing! I have always had a soft spot for the wines from Pessac-Léognan, and this wine is the textbook definition for the area. Dark fruits, tobacco leaf, violets, stoney- absolutely classic. Dare I say, La Mission Haut-Brion at a fraction of the price? This wine can make a great addition to the cellar, or be your companion tonight for a nice steak dinner.

I decanted this wine for 2 hours, and it needed it. First it was quite shut down and austere, but it opened up, and showed all the elegance this Pessac-Léognan is known for. Spicy oak notes, cocoa, plums and even violets. But it definitely needs time.
