2010 l'Evangile, Pomerol

SKU #1131665 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Another spectacular effort from L'Evangile, the 2010 is a close rival to the 2009 and should be fascinating to compare with that vintage over the next 30 or so years. Stunningly rich and black/purple in color, the 2010 L'Evangile offers up the tell-tale floral note as well as black raspberry jam intermixed with cassis and kirsch. There are also ethereal floral notes and a hint of background oak. (RP) 98+ Inner quote mark (2/2013)

97 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Concentrated and closed on the nose, this has silky, seductive, finely-layered tannins, with tons of fruit and acidity providing the counterpoint. We are very definitely stepping up a level here, even among the extremely good quality wines that I am tasting. The depth and texture are striking, as are the exotic notes of anis and black peppercorns, and the whispers of iris and violet flowers as things open up in the glass. Such a lovely property, really showing what it can do. (JA) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

97 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark A Pomerol of a different color, relying heavily on dense muscle and dark charcoal notes, with a core of fig, blackberry paste and blueberry reduction waiting in reserve. Very solid through the finish, displaying a thick ganache coating and extra loam, black licorice and dark fig notes rolling through. Best from 2017 through 2037. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2013)

96 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Extremely complex with black olives, violets and brown sugar. Superb nose. Full body with a impressive density and richness. The quality of the tannins is so very stunning, giving a wonderful texture. Fresh and bright. Such length. Try in 2017. Inner quote mark (2/2013)

92-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Opaque purple-ruby. Deep, rich aromas of black plum, violet, licorice and chocolate. Extremely broad and impressively large-scaled, with almost shocking sweetness to the jammy red and black fruit flavors. This huge, extract-rich Pomerol comes across as dense and luscious, but may prove almost too much for some wine lovers. The long finish features refined, smooth tannins. Inner quote mark (6/2011)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Oak-char first impression but there's lots of sweet ripe fruit there too. Juicy, generous and very giving. So generous in its fruit even though there is plenty of ripe tannin there. Luscious. 17.5/20 points. (JR) Inner quote mark (4/2012)

K&L Notes

89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc. 94 points Lisa Perotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet in color, the 2010 L'Evangile strides confidently out of the glass with notes of chocolate-covered cherries, vanilla pod, sweaty leather and baked plums plus hints of tobacco leaf and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, the generously fruited palate has a lovely, plush frame with oodles of freshness and a spicy kick to the finish." (3/2020)
