2011 Linne Calodo "Nemesis" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1127875 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Getting a big 'Wow!' in my notes, the 2011 Nemesis is smoking good! Offering up rich, full aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, black raspberry, cream, licorice, new leather and peppery notes, it flows onto the palate with voluptuously styled fruit and texture, yet never seems heavy or cumbersome in the least. Enjoy this pure, seamless and beautifully balanced 2011 over the coming decade. Drink now-2023. This was a fantastic lineup of wines by proprietor Matt Trevisan and all of the current releases have brilliant purity of fruit and a lively, energetic feel without ever coming across as lean. Blends are the rule here and these are character-filled efforts that could come from nowhere else. Highly recommended. (JD) Inner quote mark (8/2013)

Outer quote mark Opaque purple. Potent aromas of black and blue fruits, violet, licorice and olive, with a smoky mineral topnote. Sappy and precise, offering densely packed blueberry and cassis flavors and an exotic floral pastille nuance. The mineral quality comes back strong on the finish, which shows impressive tension and spicy persistence. (JR) Inner quote mark (12/2013)

Outer quote mark The 2011 Nemesis wraps around the palate with gorgeous resonance and nuance. Blue and purplish-toned fruit, flowers and sweet spices wrap around the palate as the 2011 shows off its personality. There is wonderful depth in the glass, not to mention considerable near and medium term appeal. This is another gorgeous showing from Linne Calodo. Nemesis is 87% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 3% Grenache. (AG) Inner quote mark (7/2014)

K&L Notes

87% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 3% Grenache. From Robert Parker: "Matt Trevisan is one of Paso Robles' up-and-coming stars. He’s doing everything right, and it’s good to see him planting a new estate vineyard of nearly 18 acres, building a new wine cellar, and taking full advantage of the gorgeous limestone soils on the hillsides of West Paso Robles. Trevisan has also been ahead of the curve in realizing that the finest Paso Robles wines are usually blends. Undeniably, he has demonstrated a Midas touch when it comes to assembling innovative blends. He is also the only winemaker in this region that I know of who is doing terrific work with Zinfandel, using it as the core component in some diverse as well as creative blends. His wines spend time in an assortment of different sized oak barrels, little of it new." (6/2008, RP)
