Superb nose of sweet tobacco, dark fruits, iron, rust, strawberry and chocolate. Fresh mint. Pine nuts. Full body with incredible structure. It is tightly knit with dense ball of fruit and ripe tannins. Goes on for minutes. This needs time to come together in bottle but fascinating. Chanel No 5 in a bottle.

More backward and firmer than the 2009, it exhibits copious notes of chocolate fudge, creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, graphite and licorice as well as stunning concentration, full body, perfect balance and a massive personality. Still unevolved, it will benefit from several more years of bottle age, and should keep for three decades. (RP) 95+

Heady, floral-accented aromas of dark berry preserves, vanilla, mocha and black truffle, with a smoky overtone. Sappy, palate-staining blackberry and cassis flavors are lifted and braced by zesty mineral and spice notes and show excellent clarity. Becomes sweeter with air and finishes with superb energy, focus and persistence, with just a whisper of dusty tannins. (ST)

Vinous
The 2010 Les Pavots has come together nicely since last year. Black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice, grilled herbs and new leather burst from the glass. The 2010 is intense and explosive to the core, with terrific richness, volume and breadth. A huge, resonant finish rounds things out nicely. The 2010 Pavots is a classic Peter Michael red built on power and layers of flavor. (AG)
