1998 Poujeaux, Moulis (3L)

SKU #1127539

One of the best wines of the Moulis, and many feel it should be raised to a 5th growth. Chateau Poujeaux's vineyards lie on the gravelly mounds of the Grand-Poujeaux northeast of Moulis and are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in the plantings. The property has been producing wine since the 19th century and has consistently produced a wine that ages quite well in the medium term and can occasionally be profound and very long lived. According to Robert Parker: "The 1998's dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by a sweet nose of cranberries, blackberries, minerals, and toasty oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with excellent texture, fine depth, and sweet tannin in the finish. As always, it is a wine of class and length. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2016." (04/01) According to the Wine Spectator: "Pretty plum and berry character on the nose. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a medium finish. Delicious. Best after 2005." (01/01)
