2009 du Tertre, Margaux

SKU #1127536 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark A wine that continues the impressive rise of du Tertre. It is becoming one of the sure values of Margaux, and this 2009 is both ripe and finely balanced. The acidity boosts the rich fruits, sweet tannins and the warm finish. (RV) Inner quote mark (2/2012)

92 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Smoky black fruits on the nose are accompanied by some clear caramel edging. You can feel the heat and generosity of the vintage on the palate, and it's a little more evolved than you might expect for a classified Margaux, but it would be churlish to complain about the silk-textured pleasure on display in this glass. Drinking window 2019-2036. (JA) Inner quote mark (2/2019)

92 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark The cool fresh forest berries character gives this medium-bodied Margaux a lot of charm. Long very clean and rather elegant finish. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (3/2019)

92 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A seductive, opulent, textured Margaux with notes of licorice, black fruits, asphalt, pen ink and truffle, this is one of the finest du Tertres ever made. It has a hedonistic quality to it, but at the same time, there is great class, precision and freshness to this full-bodied, concentrated, but very supple-textured wine. Drink it over the next 20+ years. (RP) Inner quote mark (12/2011)

91 points Int'l Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Bright ruby-red. Cassis, red plum, tobacco leaf, minerals and spices on the nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Silky, suave and elegantly styled; not a particularly opulent wine but nicely polished and balanced, and already offering a lovely perfumed character. Finishes firmly tannic, spicy and long, with harmonious acidity contributing to the impression of class. A terrific vintage for this property. (ST) Inner quote mark (7/2012)

91 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Quite perfumy at first, with lilac, damson plum and singed bay leaf notes up front, followed by darker yet still caressing steeped black cherry, worn leather and espresso notes on the back end. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2012)

K&L Notes

92 points Lisa Perotti-Brown in Wine Advocate: "The medium garnet colored 2009 du Tertre conjures notions of kirsch, black raspberries, warm plums and potpourri on the nose with hints of sage and menthol. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, juicy and seductively approachable with a lively finish." (03/2019)

Good upfront fruit. Mid-palate? At UGC: Lighter in style here. Sweet and racy. Quite forward. Drink the 1996 and save this value for a few more years. Beautiful Chateau and great tasting red.
Drink from 2015 to 2025
