Casamigos Blanco Tequila (750ml)

Co-owned by actor George Clooney and nightlife impresario Rande Gerber, this blanco is smooth and light. The aromas are restrained, but on the palate look for mild agave sweetness backed by lemon zest, ginger and white pepper sparks, plus a candied lemon-peel note on the gentle exit. (KN) (5/2014)

Very rarely does a product like this come to our attention without a sneer or a snicker. But when "The Cloons" writes his name on something, you better show it some respect. So, with that tiny amount of atypical goodwill attached, we raised a glass of this new tequila and let out a collective, "Rhuh?" This stuff actually tastes pretty amazing. The style is definitely on the richer, softer, sweeter side of tequila, but it shows great balance and complexity. Clearly someone took some time to get this done right. One wouldn't expect much less from this excellent distillery, NOM 1416, which is responsible for the popular Campo Azul brand and the always impressive Clase Azul Tequilas. Here we have a similar style, albeit with a touch less sweetness than Clase Blanco. And then they went and put it in a bottle that doesn't suck and they're asking a relatively reasonable price for it. It's not like they're running a charity. Oh wait, Mr. Clooney is donating all his proceeds. Drink tequila and save the world. So here is the recipe: take one A list actor, one night club maven, one real estate mogul, add a gated community in Cabo, a really solid distillery, some freaking good taste and you've got yourself CASAMIGOS tequila.
