*Cellar Selection* This is flashy and impressive for the sheer power and concentration of its fruit. Intense blackberry and cassis flavors sink deep and last long, accompanied by strong, new French oak and considerable tannins. It’s a wine that needs serious cellar time; eight years from now, it could still be a baby.

A slightly darker, richer wine than the Meritaggio, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Three Acre possesses considerable depth and richness, while staying light on its feet, largely because of the predominant presence of the 337 Cabernet Sauvignon clone. Dark red berries, spices and flowers flesh out in a totally seductive wine. Firm Cabernet tannins appear on the finish, but they are beautifully balanced and in no way detract from the wine’s considerable appeal. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. (AG)
I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted at David Arthur this year. Winemaker Nile Zacherle has done a brilliant job with these new and upcoming releases. The David Arthur style is all about richness without excess heaviness. In addition to the wines below, I also tasted a Nebbiolo from the 2011 harvest that is easily one of the most interesting California Nebbiolos I have ever come across.

(clone 337): Good medium ruby. Varietaly expressive aromas and flavors of black cherry, cassis, licorice, wild herbs and graphite. Supple, sweet and intense, conveying excellent definition and a light touch. Finishes dry and classic, with serious palate-coating tannins and suble persistence. More concentrated than the Meritaggio but also sweeter and more harmonious in the early going. (ST)

An earthier, more rustic and extracted style, dense, potent and very tannic, but also complex and focused. Requires patience. Best from 2014 through 2026.
