2010 Domaine Jean-Philipe Fichet Meursault "Gruyaches"

SKU #1120331 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Pale bright yellow. Delicate, complex aromas of lemon, dusty stone, flowers and white pepper. Juicy and intense, with bracing acidity keeping the lemon zest and floral flavors under wraps today. More structured and less forward and sexy now than the Chevalieres, but this dense, old-viney Meursault is refined, pure and very long. I'd give it at least three or four years to open, at which point it may merit an even higher rating. 92(+?) points Inner quote mark (9/2012)

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark *Outstanding Top Value* This is very backward and primary and only grudgingly gives up notes of ripe and lightly spiced pear, white flowers and a hint of apricot. There is a wonderfully generous and suave mouth feel to the impressively rich and seductively textured flavors that possess ample amounts of dry extract. Yet for all of the volume, the firm acid spine keeps everything focused and in perfect balance as the very dry finish tightens up substantially. Inner quote mark (6/2012)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2010 Meursault Gruyaches caresses the palate with expressive white and yellow stone fruit, smoke, ash, slate and graphite. The depth and centeredness of the 2010 are quite striking. Mineral notes cut straight through the fruit, yet this remains a round, sensual wine with considerable early appeal. This parcel was planted in 1928. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. This is a gorgeous set of wines from Jean-Philippe Fichet. The 2010s have great energy and freshness. Much of that is, of course, the personality of the vintage, but Fichet is also among the growers who use a fair bit of larger 600-liter barrels, which helps maintain a fair amount of cut and sheer energy. Inner quote mark (8/2012)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Hot stones and flint, yum yum! Very little oak in evidence, rather a streamlined, pert fruitiness and a hint of ripe cheese on the finish. 17+/20 points. Inner quote mark (1/2012)

K&L Notes

This comes from Fichet's oldest vines(more than 80 years old), gown on the border with Meursault Charmes. This is better than many Meursault 1er Crus! Fichet si now leaving the wines in barrel for 12 months, and then in tank for an additional sixm onths to develop additional complexity. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer)
