2010 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (1.5L)

SKU #1120061 92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Firmly tannic, with a rich, ripe core of earth-laced wild berry and raspberry flavors, this gains depth and complexity on the long, detailed finish, reverberating with flavors. (JL) Inner quote mark (4/2013)

90 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Aggressive now, this wine is big, distinguished by deep, pure flavors of red currants, sweet sandalwood, persimmons, cola and baking spices. But it needs time for all of the parts to knit together. *Cellar Selection* Inner quote mark (3/2013)

K&L Notes

One of the Central Coast's cult Pinots. The fruit comes entirely from the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, aged for 16 months in 55% new French oak barrels. It's complex and heady, with notes of violets and wild mushrooms, cola, spice and red fruit. Fine tannins and juicy acidity, this is big, even for the vintage, and will age well. According to the PrinceofPinot.com: "Medium dark purple color in the glass. Well-endowed with seductive aromas of spice plum and dark red rose petals. Clearly a special wine that is very charming now. Discreetly concentrated flavors of plum, boysenberry and black cherry with a whisper of spice and vanilla, finishing with an intensely aromatic black cherry flourish. Beautifully composed with balanced tannins and welcoming acidity. A complete wine. Still impressive the following day from a previously opened and recorked bottle." (12/2012)
