 The color of the 2003 Vouvray Moelleux Cuvée Constance (poured from the 500 ml bottle) is as golden-orange as is the small paper strip label. On the nose this wine is an unreal beauty, combining perfect fruit ripeness and concentration with precision, finesse and spicy/mineral flavors that are quite rare in sweet wines of this top level. Smooth, nobly elegant, perfectly balanced and highly intense on the palate, this is a wine to die for. Its finesse and weightless intensity is beyond worth. Surely the finest Huet I ever tasted. The Domaine Huet in Vouvray is one of the few world class producers in the Loire Valley. Its reputation was built by 1910-born Gaston Huet and the Le Haut Lieu, a top single vineyard site that was bought by his parents in 1928 with three hectares under vines, all Chenin Blanc. - Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically. Vouvray Chenins are traditionally medium-sweet; Savennières Chenins are typically bright and crisp; Coteaux du Layon Chenins like Bonezeaux and Quarts de Chaume are among the world's most sought-after sweet wines, and the sparkling Chenins of Saumur are perfumed and delicious. What all of these iterations of the grape have in common is their ability to age, a gift bestowed upon them because of the grape's naturally high-acidity.
