Strikes a nice balance between the dense, extracted, spicy, peppery dark berry flavors and the touch of loamy earth. Fine-grained and graceful. Drink now through 2023.

*Highly Recommended* Even better, and a killer value, is the 2010 Syrah Colson Canyon. Aged nine months in neutral oak, this 100% Syrah (1,000+ cases made) exhibits attractive notes of roasted herbs, licorice, camphor, blackberries, cassis, roasted meat and bouquet garni. Full body, gorgeous purity and a wonderful silkiness give this wine enormous appeal. Enjoy it over the next 3-5 years. Joey Tensley, who makes some high end, super-duper wines from Rhone varietals, has two terrific values in his portfolio. (JR)

Vinous
Bright purple. Expansive aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, potpourri and violet, with smoke and Indian spice nuances adding complexity very syrah. Big and lush but lively, offering potent cassis and blueberry flavors complicated by star anise and bitter chocolate. Gentle tannins add shape to the strikingly long, sappy finish. (AG)
