2002 Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Caillerets"

SKU #1114565 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark I have been arguing for some years now that Caillerets is the single best vineyard in Puligny and it's interesting that we're finally beginning to see enough different examples to create a greater awareness of just how fine the vineyard can be (it was essentially a monopole) until the early 1990s. Noticeable pain grillé undertones highlight expressive, wonderfully pure middle weight flavors that display nuances of fennel, citrus and a subtle ripe pear character and a sappy, palate staining finish of grand cru caliber persistence. A terrific wine that has it all, blending size, power, weight and elegance into a seamless whole. *Outstanding* Inner quote mark (7/2004)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Reticent aromas of menthol and minerals. Highly concentrated, sweet and rich, with a silky texture and superb volume. Powerful for the vintage, but less expressive and complex than the Folatieres, with strong acidity keeping the flavors under wraps. The wine's mineral lift suggests that it just needs time. (ST) 92+ Inner quote mark (10/2004)

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Creamed mocha and minerals can be discerned in the aromatic profile of the 2002 Puligny-Montrachet Caillerets. A supple, silky, lush, light to medium-bodied wine, it is pure and detailed. Coffee, pears, and ginger are revealed in its complex personality. (PR) Inner quote mark (2/2004)
