2010 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1113501 93-95 points Jeb Dunnuck

Firm, structured, and showing the coolness of the vintage beautifully, the 2010 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel (45% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 4% Counoise) is a fresh, focused, and balanced red that has loads of crushed berry like fruit, licorice, sappy underbrush, and floral nuances, as well as superb underlying minerality, all emerging from the glass. Quite tight and firm on the palate, with excellent purity, juicy acidity, and a youthful, energetic feel, this will most likely require 3-5 years of bottle age once released, and have 15+ years of total longevity. In this vintage, the 2010 Esprit de Beaucastel is decidedly huge. An exciting array of dark red fruit, black cherries, licorice and tar come together beautifully. At first large-scaled and sweeping in personality, the wine finds more refined registers on the finish, where floral notes add a measure of lift and finesse. Today, the 2010 is a baby, though. The blend is 45% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 4% Counoise. (AG) (8/2012)

Opening up considerably since I tasted it from barrel, the 2010 Esprit de Beaucastel is a superb blend of 45% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 4% Counoise that was aged all in foudre. It delivers loads of ripe blackberry, plum, licorice, roasted herbs and hints of flowers to go with a medium to full-bodied, rich and mouth-filling profile on the palate. Textured, layered and rich, with a firm underlying core of tannin, this superbly balanced beauty should be given 2-3 years of bottle age and then consumed over the following decade. (JD) (8/2013)

Bright ruby-red. Exotically perfumed bouquet of ripe red fruits, Asian spices, lavender and cola. Pliant, sweet and lithe, offering intense raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors along with hints of star anise and blood orange. Finishes silky, sweet and long, with resonating floral notes and excellent focus. (JR) (11/2012)

45% Mourvedre, 30% grenache, 21% syrah and 4% counoise. Spicy, floral perfumed nose. White pepper, mineral, blackberry, tar, and leather notes on the palate are finished with nice firm tanins on the back end. This is a big wine with plenty of depth and structure. Delicious!

Pretty black currant, cassis, blackberry, vanilla & blueberry with a meaty, savory, spicy edge. Medium plus acidty & medium plus tannin- a cellar worthy candidate to be sure. Always mainly Mourvedre, the Esprit de Beaucastel is the flagship red of Tablas Creek. 45% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache Noir, 21% Syrah, 4% Counoise.
