I very much enjoyed this wine when I last reviewed it in 2012, and I like it even more now. Celine Villars has fashioned a wonderful 2009 here. Usually, Camensac is big and brawny, but the 2009 vintage shines through here. A rich and solid 2009 to enjoy now or for 5-plus years of cellaring. Sweet and elegant aromas of rose and toasted oak with some cassis. Sweet palate entry and full-bodied red with a touch of tannin at the back. Decant and enjoy with a juicy steak. And the price won't kill your pocketbook either. Just re-tasted Aug 1, 2023 - super wine - sexy like the 2009 vintage with the power of the property in balance. A steal!

Camensac is one of only five Haut Medoc properties classified Grand Cru. Year in and year out, the Merlaut family (owners of the great Second Growth Gruaud Larose) produces classic left bank gems here that age beautifully and don't require a second mortgage to acquire. The 2009 is a standout. It opens with a splendid bouquet of cherry kirsch and strawberry coulis, sweet baking spice and cigar box, a little earthy graphite and smoke. The rich fruit is still fresh and inviting and the persistent finish is indeed worthy of Grand Cru status. This is one fun bottle of wine.
