John E. Fitzgerald "Larceny" Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)

SKU #1112167 93 points Wine Enthusiast

This small-batch bourbon uses wheat in place of rye to create a soft, rounded character. The mild crème brulee aroma leads into sasparilla and creamy caramel flavors. At 92 proof, it’s a wonder that the alcohol feels so moderate, but it makes its presence known in the cinnamon-firework finish. Attractive bottle design with clever keyhole label. *Best Buy* (KN) (7/2013)

Whisky Advocate

A new wheated bourbon from Heaven Hill, using wheat instead of rye in the mashbill, resulting in a smooth, easygoing whiskey. Layers of sweetness (creamy vanilla, maple syrup, marzipan) combine with blackberry jam and cinnamon. Gentle polished oak on the finish adds drying balance to the sweet notes. Nicely done and reasonably priced! (Vol. 21, #4)

K&L Notes

With a keen eye on Maker's Mark, Heaven Hill has just released their answer to the bargain-priced wheated bourbon. One of the few wheated bourbons still readily available on today's ultra hot bourbon market. At 92 proof, it's got a bit more pop than MM, while maintaining more creaminess and less of the big, sweet wood that characterizes the Weller releases. It makes another fine edition to the $25-and-under whiskey club which Heaven Hill excells in. Creamy, supple, balanced and well-made. What else could you ask for?

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
