2010 Jigsaw Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1111821 Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Instantiating a regular feature of the Ransom line-up (with its own distinctive label) and assembled from numerous sources (including some fruit that, unlike what informs all of Seestedt’s other wines, was not organically-grown) the early-bottled 2010 Pinot Noir Jigsaw is loaded with ripe strawberry and red currant garlanded with flowers and herbs; caresses the palate even as it refreshes; and finishes with mouthwatering persistence. Would that there were more than 1,500 cases of this by international Pinot standards absurdly fine value that should delight for at least the next 3-4 years. (And trust me: there have been installments of Jigsaw even finer than this one for the same low price!) Tad Seestedt named his operation “Ransom Spirits” (begun in 1997) for the degree to which his idealistic and artisanal – some might, after tasting the results, exclaim “alchemical” – pursuit of distillates distinctly delicious and rigorously founded in historical research, rendered his financial security; the patience of supportive friends; and all of his waking hours hostage to the bank. Visit the farm south of Sheridan to which Seestedt moved three years ago if you want to taste the likes of authentic Old Tom Gin, Whipper Snapper Oregon Spirit Whiskey, or a stunning recreation (long in research and development but soon to be unveiled) of fin de siecle vermouth ... but, more to the point, also if you want to experience some of the best wine values I’ve tasted anywhere in America since Inner quote mark (8/2012)
