2009 Coutet, Sauternes (375ml)

SKU #1110647 96 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark A triumph for the vintage with spices, dried mushroom, dried pineapple, peaches, and honey. Full and sweet with bright acidity and a long, intense finish. Powerful wine. This could be the best Coutet ever. Inner quote mark (5/2013)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 Coutet leaps from the glass with warm apple pie, dried mango, fresh straw, lemongrass, ginger and crème caramel notes. The rich, concentrated, unctuous flavors are lifted by amazing freshness, finishing epically long, layered and with a tantalizing nuttiness. (LPB) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

95 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Very lightly toasty, this is more floral for now, with lively honeysuckle and pineapple notes up front, giving way to richer hints of warm brioche, fig, glazed pear and lemon shortbread that should emerge more with time. The long, lacy finish has the poise and balance for long-term cellaring. Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. (JM) Inner quote mark (3/2012)

94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Dense and rich, this wine has concentrated flavors of botrytis and floral honey. The wine gives the impression of sweetness, with balancing acidity and a core of dryness. Weighty and dense, it's likely to age. (RV) Inner quote mark (2/2013)

92-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark (a blend of 75% semillon, 23% sauvignon and 2% muscadelle; 14+% alcohol; 146 g/l residual sugar) Bright, deep golden yellow. Delicate smoky nuances complicate aromas of ripe citrus fruits, brown sugar and vanilla on the floral, perfumed nose. Enters very rich and creamy, showing very good balance to its pineapple jam, star fruit, white peach and citrus flavors. Finishes long, creamy-rich and smooth, with strong botrytis character and a lingering flinty note. One of the top '09 Sauternes I tasted, and one of the best young Coutets ever. This should age exceptionally well. Inner quote mark (5/2010)

92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2009 Coutet feels a little simple on the nose compared to its peers, plenty of tropical fruit here such as mango and passion fruit but I would like more terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with an unctuous texture with fine acidity. This is not dissimilar to the 2009 Doisy-Daëne whereby there is much more quality in the mouth than on the nose, finishing with a detailed, stem ginger and pineapple tinged finish that is very appealing. I suspect this will improve in bottle. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. (NM) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

91-92 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark The 2009 Coutet is another of the very heavily botrytized wines of this vintage, but the noble rot is all very clean and pure and the wine should prove to be a real beauty in the fullness of time. The deep and complex nose offers up scents of apple, peach, tangerine, lovely, chalky soil tones, citrus peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very elegant, with fine mid-palate depth, great, zesty acids and outstanding length and grip on the classy finish. A lovely vintage of Coutet. 91-92+ Inner quote mark (3/2010)

Outer quote mark Tasted blind. Deep gold. Very big and massive and yet fresh, with enormous weight but tension too. Almost hot! Dense. 18/20 points. (JR) Inner quote mark (2/2019)
