2007 Produttori del Barbaresco "Rabaja" Barbaresco Riserva

SKU #1110098 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2007 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is a big, dark wine loaded with dark fruit, menthol, tar, flowers, mint, rosemary and an array of balsamic notes that develop in the glass. The Rabaja possesses stunning depth to match its muscular tannins. It is a dazzling wine endowed with tons of inner perfume and sheer personality as it saturates the palate from start to finish. Today, the Rabaja comes across as huge and almost Barolo like, but it has plenty of Rabaja character. Purists will want to age the wine for a number of years to allow the baby fruit to drop off, but the truth is, it is pretty stunning even today. (AG) Inner quote mark (10/2011)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Good full red. Reticent but very pure nose opens to reveal cherry, plum, spices, mocha and smoke. Broad, concentrated and deep but very young and inexpressive today. This seriously thick, layered Barbaresco displays very good definition and finishes with excellent length and energy. (ST) Inner quote mark (11/2011)

91 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark At 1,050 feet, this is one of Produttori del Barbaresco’s highest vineyards, creating a wine with red fruit lift and transparent tannins. There’s tension between the smoky, nutty mushroom character that pulls the wine downward and the bright fruit that points toward the sun. The clean structure will reward several years of bottle age. Inner quote mark (12/2011)

K&L Notes

Produttori del Barbaresco is a type of cooperative arrangement between 56 growers in Barbaresco. Its roots go back to 1958 when small growers of the region working in cooperation with the priest of Barbaresco village came together to ensure the quality and uniqueness of their production. Each family still maintains their small vineyard holdings, and most years these are blended into either bottlings of Barbaresco or Nebbiolo, and in great years there can be one or more of 9 single vineyards produced. These wines will always have their vineyards and growers noted and are quite special.
