1995 Grand Mayne, St-Émilion

SKU #110207 91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 1995 Grand Mayne has a much better bouquet compared to the bottles of the Eighties with vibrant scents of red cherries, dark chocolate and light minty aromas. This could be classed as the first of the modern-day vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, grainy in texture with cedar-infused red fruit laced with mint. It just dips a little early at the finish but otherwise this 1995 continues to give pleasure. Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property. (NM) Inner quote mark (2/2020)

90 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark An unqualified sleeper of the vintage, the opaque purple-colored 1995 Grand-Mayne displays a sweet, creamy, black raspberry-scented nose with subtle notes of smoky, toasty oak. Both powerful and elegant, this wine exhibits layers of richness, nicely integrated acidity and tannin, and an impressive full-bodied, long finish. (RP) Inner quote mark (2/1998)

90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark In-your-face aromas of toasted oak, ripe berries and chocolate. Full-bodied, with loads of ripe fruit and a long, smoke and berry finish. Absolutely moreish. Inner quote mark (9/1998)

This was my favorite of the tasting and I enjoyed it that evening with dinner. The nose still showed oak spice, cola, and ripe plum. The elegant mouth feel was fully integrated with rich ripe plum, cola, mocha and spice leading to a long finish filled with mocha and ripe fruit. This is a lovely wine.

Wow, this wine is a super Right Bank with lush Merlot black fruit on the nose and palate, toasted oak, ripe berries, chocolate flavors and no hard edges. A great, full-bodied, lush wine with smoky notes from a great Merlot vintage. 92+ points for sure.
