SKU #1095428 91 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Ripe but nicely focused, this white displays tangerine and nectarine notes along the edges, lending a racy hint to the peach and yellow apple fruit flavors. There's good cut on the finish. Drink now through 2013. Inner quote mark (10/2012)

K&L Notes

The 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc from Chante Cigale is a floral and exotic expression of Southern Rhone white wine. Rich and tropical, this blend of 25% Roussanne, 25% Grenache Blanc, 25% Bourboulenc, and 25% Clairette can age, but is most exciting in its youth. The grapes were manually harvested from 25-year-old vines and carefully sorted. The wine was fermented in steel with no malolactic in order to maintain brightness, however the lots were kept on the lees for 3-6 months to best develop the wine's full-bodied richness. "An old estate, Chante Cigale, which owns nearly 100 acres of vineyards (45 separate parcels) throughout the northern and southern sectors of Chateauneuf du Pape," writes Robert Parker, "is owned by the Favier family. Currently, it is managed by the young, super-talented Alexandre Favier. Some of the estate’s finest plots are planted in sandy soils (in which Grenache seems to flourish) located next to Chateau Rayas." (10/2012) 13.5% abv.
