2007 Dehlinger "Goldridge Vineyard" Russian River Valley Syrah

SKU #1095417 91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Inky purple. Blackberry, cherry-cola, fresh herbs, pepper and licorice on the nose, plus hints of dried flowers and spice. Smooth and suave in the mouth, with a distinctly juicy quality and very good intensity to its fresh dark berry and floral flavors. This vinous, focused wine finishes with silky tannins and very good length. (ST) Inner quote mark (5/2010)

Outer quote mark It is often forgotten that Tom Dehlinger was one of the pioneers of Rhone Rangers. He first planted Syrah vines in 1989 when, as he told me, there were only 300 acres of that varietal in all of California (today there are nearly 30,000 acres). The 2007 Syrah Goldridge Vineyard is the more precocious of his two 2007 offerings. Its deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by notes of charcoal, roasted meats, blackberries and cassis. This peppery, spicy, silky Syrah is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years. (RP) Inner quote mark (2/2011)
