Baron-Fuenté’s non-vintage Brut bottling is composed of a blend of sixty percent Pinot Meunier, thirty percent chardonnay and ten percent Pinot Noir, with all the vins clairs all fermented in stainless steel. It is a full malo wine and is aged three years sur latte, being finished with a dosage of nine grams per liter. I am not sure if this is the same release I reported on last year or a new cuvée, but the wine is showing very well. The bouquet offers up a fine constellation of white peach, apple, lovely Meunier floral tones, a touch of patissière, lovely minerality and a hint of lemon zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very nicely balanced, with a good core, a fine sense of bounce, elegant mousse and lovely cut and grip on the seamless and classy finish. Fine juice, with plenty of Pinot Meunier delicacy in evidence on the palate. 90+

Wine & Spirits
Tart and fresh, with notes of sage and thyme, this is a simple Champagne with a light, airy feel. Its scents of almond and bread dough connect at the intersection of limestone, lees and dosage.

Vinous
Light gold. Fresh melon, orange and peach on the fruity nose and in the mouth. Supple and broad on the palate, showing a hint of warmth on the back half. In an easygoing style, finishig with gentle cut and good length. (JR)

Wine Enthusiast
This is a ripe wine with attractive acidity and layers of apple and creamed-pear fruitiness. Still fresh and tangy, the wine has a lively mousse to balance the gentle, soft aftertaste. (RV)

A firm Champagne, with a crisp, airy mousse, this offers hints of crunchy white peach, plum, pastry and candied ginger. (AN, Web Only-2018)
K&L Notes
Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes" meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and had been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold temperatures in stainless steel with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine has a very light, white gold color for the blend, which is predominantly black grapes, and a very pretty, tight bead. On the nose it is flowery and exotic, with a doughy richness to anchor down the wildflower elements. On the palate the wine is well balanced, light and finishes very cleanly. This Champagne is a spectacular aperitif. The current batch is 60% 2005, 30% 2004 and 10% 2003 and dosed at 10 grams per liter. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
