2008 Littorai "B.A. Thieriot Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

SKU #1093803 94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2008 Chardonnay Thieriot Vineyard has developed a distinctive set of Riesling-like mineral nuances that is compelling. An absolutely exquisite, expressive Chardonnay, the 2008 has enough energy to drink well for at least another handful of years. This is another sublime Chardonnay that has stood the test of time gracefully. (AG) Inner quote mark (2/2016)

Outer quote mark The 2008 Thieriot chardonnay is another excellent bottle in the making. The deep and complex bouquet offers up a blend of apple, lemon, a nice touch of Chablisienne straw tones, complex soil nuances, citrus peel and buttery oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and classy, with fine mid-palate depth, bright acids and impeccable balance and focus on the very long, youthful finish. Lovely juice. (Drink between 2011-2025) Inner quote mark (6/2011)

Outer quote mark Abundant aromas of crushed rocks, honeysuckle, nectarines, white fruits and flowers emerge from the medium to full-bodied, crisp 2008 Chardonnay Thieriot Vineyard. Tasting like a California version of a Corton-Charlemagne, it will age effortlessly for 4-6 years. Winemaker/proprietor Ted Lemon has one of the most impressive resumes in California having produced Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs in that state as well as previously working in Burgundy. His wines consistently represent the best of California’s ripeness combined with Burgundy’s finesse and elegance. His Chardonnay vineyards are all planted in cool micro-climates and his wines are all beautifully made, crisp, elegant, flavorful whites. (RP) Inner quote mark (2/2011)

Outer quote mark Very pale color. Vibrant, delicately perfumed nose melds white peach, wild herbs and spices. Intensely flavored and tightly wound, with brisk acidity framing the flavors of lemon, herbal tea, minerals and spices. The spicy finish features sneaky mounting length and a late hint of pineapple. This has a pH of 3.5, which winemaker Ted Lemon describes as average, and a very moderate alcohol level of 13.5%. I'd give this a couple years in the cellar. (ST) 91+ Inner quote mark (5/2010)

Outer quote mark Young and still a bit raw, yet complex, intense and layered, this is rich in flavors of ripe fig, melon, anise and cedary oak. Needs time. (JL, Web-2011) Inner quote mark
