2011 Cave de Tavel "Lauzeraies" Tavel

SKU #1089869

Rejoice Tavel! In a time when very high quality rosés line our shelves, when pink wines from Spain, the US, South Africa, Italy and all over the land of France are finally getting some much deserved attention in the press and from our customers, we must give Tavel its special due. This is the original rosé appellation. In fact, so good is the fabled rosé from Tavel, that by law no other sort of wine can call itself Tavel! Layers of wild strawberries collide with a spicy note, a dash of citrusy acidity and so much fruit and flower aroma, it is almost too much. But then, when paired with foods of the region--fish soups, black olives, rosemary scented meats and poultry, anything combining eggplant and tomatoes...well, it is not too much at all. No, it is darn near perfect. 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault, 10% Mourvedre. 13.5% abv.

They only make rose in Tavel so they must know what they're doing. This is great!

Don't know if your feeling White wine or Red wine tonight? How about a Gorgeous Dry Rose from the classic region of Tavel France! A bit darker and richer in color and flavor, but dry and mineraly on the palate with a mouthwatering finish! You won't be able to sip on just one glass for long!

Our first Tavel in stock, and it is lovely. Classic in its richness. Wild strawberries and a touch of herb spices give this wine a perfect edge for pairing with a more substantial Mediterranean style fare.

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
