2009 Seguin, Pessac-Léognan

SKU #1088738 89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot exhibits loads of sweet kirsch and licorice notes as well as loamy soil undertones. It is velvety-textured, with plenty of glycerin, a heady mouthfeel and a long finish. It is a sleeper of the vintage and best drunk over the next decade. (89+) Inner quote mark (2/2012)

K&L Notes

Château Seguin, rising star of Pessac-Léognan, is situated 15 kilometres south of Bordeaux. The vineyard was completely replanted in 1988. The owner's aim is to produce great wines while respecting the environment. According to the winery, their 2009 is an equal blend of Cab and Merlot. It's quite luscious, with plenty of ripe red berry fruit, vanilla and spice to drink now and over the next five years.

This was a lovely surprise hit from our last in-store tasting. The nose showed plenty of layers of cassis, mineral and cedar. The palate showed a lush texture of heady cassis, mineral, oak spice and more cedar, all carrying through on the long finish. The ripe fruit remains in balance, with plenty of structure. There’s a lot of wine here for $30.
