2009 Holus-Bolus Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

SKU #1084980

Yup, we are fans of the Holus Bolus Syrah, a joint project of Chad Melville, Jim Knight, Sashi Moorman (winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards) and Peter Hunken (assistant winemaker at Stolpman) and we're not the only ones - the 2008 was an LA Times Wine of the Week in March of 2011. Fruit for the 2009 Syrah comes from two vineyards in the Los Alamos Valley of Santa Barbara County, Watch Hill (alluvial soils) and nearby Los Tres Burros, which has since been purchased by Manfred Krankl (Sine Qua Non) so 2009 marks the last vintage for this source for Holus Bolus. The wine was aged for fourteen months in year-old French oak barrels. It exhibits red and spicy black fruit aromas and flavors, supported by hints of smoked bacon, cracked pepper, mocha, and sage. Like the 2008, it is full-bodied and flavorful, with spicy tannins and a long finish. 500 cases produced.
