Pierre Paillard "Les Terres Roses" Grand Cru Extra Brut Rosé Champagne

SKU #1084731 93 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Composed of 65% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot Noir, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Terres Roses (5% red wine) pours a bright pale pink hue and reveals aromatics of ripe strawberry, fresh bread dough, and candied roses. Juicy and inviting, with a fluffy mousse, it’s full-bodied and has a clean, supple, fruity texture. It’s fresh and savory on the palate, with salty lift and a note of orange zest that leaves a mouthwatering finish. Drink 2024-2040. One gram per liter dosage. (AF) Inner quote mark (11/2023)

Outer quote mark Bouzy's reputation for beautiful red fruit is even clearer in rosé, although this is heavily tempered by Chardonnay. Red grapefruit and pomegranate fruit are lifted up and pulled tight by citrus and roasted apricots, before a lick of sweet spice and bitter herb completes a snappy, appetising rosé that presents Bouzy's power with some delicacy. 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, based on the 2019 vintage. K&L Notes

This is one of our most delicate and refined rosé Champagnes, and is a combination of 65% Chardonnay, 28% Pinot Noir (vinified white), and 7% Bouzy Rouge Pinot Noir. It's dosed at 4.5 grams per liter and is quite dry. It's made 100% from estate-grown fruit from the Grand Cru of Bouzy, on the south-facing slopes of the Mountain of Reims and farmed without pesticides. I find this wine subtle and almost haunting, and it goes very, very well with shellfish. If you are a fan of rosé Champagne with lobster, you have found your perfect bottle! This cuvee of rose is made as chardonnay blended with red wine - and the fruit on the pinot noir comes through quite well with excellent fresh and supple raspberry in the mouth. For fans of the immediately approachable fresh and clean style of blanc des noirs champagne this is a winner! (XIX - mostly '19 vintage).

This is one of the most refreshing and elegant rose champagnes in our inventory. Coming exclusively from grand cru, estate vineyards in Ambonnay it is surprising to see such a high proportion of Chardonnay here, and it shows in the vibrancy of this top-notch bottling. Naturally, the old vine Pinot Noir used to give its color gives this wine fantastic black cherry depth and intriguing savor. What a great dry rose!

An incredible rosé Champagne that is somehow stunning yet easygoing, heady but crisp, crowd-pleasing and sophisticated all at once. Pierre Paillard Les Terres Roses is my go-to gift when I want to impress, and it has never disappointed even the most intimidating audience. Singing with dark berry and cherry fruit, this nervy Extra Brut beams with elegant acidity, thanks to a heavy dose of nimble Chardonnay in the blend, while Pinot Noir adds a welcome undercurrent of complexity. With its delicate bead and ethereal structure, this is an exceptional choice for a classic seafood pairing or aperitif, but also shines as a partner for heavier-than-usual options such as nachos. I literally keep a bottle chilling at all times, it's such a versatile showstopper. Plus the value for Grand Cru Bouzy fruit from a producer of this caliber is almost unbelievable. Enjoy Les Terres Roses immediately for a revitalizing break from the heat, or save as a dream choice for the holidays. Either way, get it while you can.

While obviously rose in color, this Champagne strays from the normal expectation of a rosé, stylistically. There’s less fruit here than in many examples, and what there is, is more delicate in its expression. The nose leads off with fresh baked bread, spice, and nut skin. The palate shows a leesy aspect that suggests Parmesan, then veers towards lemon- blood orange-tangerine citrus notes, before finishing cleanly.
