K&L Notes

A darling of the critics, Sea Smoke's "Southing" remains one of the Central Coast's cult Pinots. The fruit comes entirely from the Sea Smoke estate vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and sees 16 months in 55% new French oak barrels. "Southing" tends towards the heady side - complex and wild, red-fruited, with dynamic floral, earth, spice and mineral notes. According to the winery, "Each year, our goal for Southing is to create the ideal marriage of complexity and elegance. The ever-changing nose of the 2011 Southing exhibits red currants, persimmons, fresh flowers and river rock. The fine tannins and minerality are enhanced by our estate vineyard’s characteristic cool climate acidity."
