2010 M. Chapoutier "Les Greffieux" Ermitage Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1079472 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark More concentrated and powerful, the 2010 Ermitage Les Greffieux is thrilling on all accounts. More of a long-term prospect than the ’11, it offers massive creme de cassis, scorched earth, graphite and crushed-rock like minerality to go with a full-bodied, rich, textured and structured profile on the palate. The purity here is off-the-charts and this incredible Syrah should be given 4-5 years in the cellar and enjoyed over the following two decades. (JD) Inner quote mark (8/2014)

96 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This pumps some serious bass, with ganache-coated plum and pastis- soaked-blackberry notes supported by dense, loam- and tar-coated grip. Shows a brawny edge and buried acidity. Should stretch out with cellaring. Best from 2018 through 2028. Inner quote mark (10/2013)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Vivid purple. Mineral- and smoke-accented blackberry and blueberry on the intensely perfumed nose and in the mouth. Lush but energetic, with a peppery nuance adding bite and a sexy floral note building in the glass. Gains weight and structure with air and finishes with outstanding power and focus, on a lingering candied violet note. The most mineral-driven of this year's set of Ermitage bottlings from Chapoutier, and in need of patience. 94(+?) points Inner quote mark (4/2013)

K&L Notes

John Livingstone Learmonth The Cradle of the Rhone: "2010 (cask) good surge of dark red, some black, on the robe. Prune-blackberry, an ash air in the nose, with oak obviously present, but measured. The fruit is ripe, generous, has a touch of game in the undertow. The palate starts on the go – gives very drinkable black fruit that is enclosed by oak more than its already absorbing, ripe tannins. Attractive juice at the end, a good flourish. Finely polished Hermitage rather than the manly, brooding style, it is feminine and restrained. From 2015. Another well-balanced 2010 here. 2034-36 July 2011."
