2008 Nickel & Nickel "John C. Sullenger Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1077838 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of blueberry, licorice and graphite lifted by a violet element. Suave, lush and sweet, with pliant flavors of plum, currant and mocha. At once deep and accessible, and sweeter than the 2007 bottling from this vineyard. Finishes ripe and very long. Has the balance to enjoy now or cellar for a decade or more. (ST) (6/2011)

K&L Notes

Established in 1997 by Gil Nickel of Far Niente, the winery focuses exclusively on varietal wines from single-vineyard designations. The intention here is to share the diversity of what Napa Valley has to offer, allowing each site to singularly express itself. The winery is also keeping their practices as healthy for the environment as possible: Solar power, net-zero users of electricity, annually producing MORE energy than is consumed, organically grown grapes, replacing conventional company cars with hybrid-engine vehicles, and extensive recycling. Winery vineyard note: "Named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880s, Sullenger Vineyard is the vineyard on which the Nickel & Nickel winery is located, in the heart of Oakville. It consists of 30 acres of clay loam soil and is planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon."
