2007 Mas Doix "Costers de Vinyes Velles" Priorat

SKU #1072969 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The flagship, the 2007 Costers de Vinas Viejas is a blend of 50% Carinena , 48% Garnacha, and 2% Merlot aged for 16 months in new French oak. It offers up an aromatic array of smoke, mineral, leather, licorice, incense, plum, and black cherry. This leads to a full-bodied, voluminous, plush wine with a youthful personality and enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years. This lengthy effort will be at its best from 2013 to 2022 if not longer. Outer quote mark 50% carinena, 48% garnacha and 2% merlot) Vivid ruby. Extremely fresh, expansive aromas of raspberry, candied rose, Asian spices and minerals. Pure and mineral-driven, with sweet red fruit flavors and a lashing of minerality that adds lift and clarity. The floral and spice notes resonate on a very long, juicy, incisive finish, which also features a touch of white pepper. This was aged in 100% new French oak, but I barely detected it. The importer says most of these vines were planted in 1912. Inner quote mark (11/2010)

Outer quote mark Lively crimson. Real lift on this intense cocktail of low-yield fruit and minerals. Very sucky stony. Dry finish but very fruity start. Impressive. Quite evolved though. No sign of heat on the finish. Inner quote mark (7/2013)
