To be sure, there is still excellent freshness to the gorgeously complex nose with its aromas of dried white flowers, citrus, mineral reduction and sea breeze wisps. The equally complex and exuberantly delicious middle weight flavors possess a caressing and sophisticated mouth feel while delivering outstanding length on the beautifully long and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is just terrific and given that it is just now knocking on the door of its full maturity it will have no trouble holding for years to come. In sum this is a knock-out.

Musky aromas of chicken broth, lime and crushed stone; quite austere and slow to open. Then less fruity but more important on the palate, with bracing flavors of lemon and apple and an impression of minerality I can only describe as creamy. A very rich, dense wine with a strength of material that belies the normal-for-Raveneau yield of about 50 hectoliters per hectare. (ST)

Raveneau’s 2002 Chablis Montée de Tonerre was superb with the Peekytoe crab. Smoke, minerals and citrus peel all flowed from this superbly focused, taut wine. It will be fascinating to see how the wine evolves but it was beautiful and so promising on this night. (AG)

Slate, chalk, and ripe pears can be discerned in the aromatic profile of the 2002 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre. Fleshy, supple and packed with creamed nuts, candied citrus fruits, and flint, this is a medium-bodied wine with outstanding depth as well as a sensual, velvety texture. (PR)
