Outer quote mark Even better is the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. There are 100,000 cases of this 100% Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that is a tribute to Alex Cose’s winemaking skills as well as his ability to access good fruit. A dense plum/ruby color is followed by a wine with serious ripeness, supple, velvety tannins, abundant black currant, cedar and spice box notes, medium-bodied flavors and surprising texture and length. Drink this amazing offering over the next 4-5 years. Avalon’s wines are well-worth seeking out given their amazingly low prices. Inner quote mark (8/2011)

Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Tons of ripe, jammy blackberry, blueberry and milk chocolate flavors in this softly sweet Cabernet. For under 20 bucks, it impresses for audacious richness. Inner quote mark (12/2011)

K&L Notes

A Top Value! If you're looking for an everyday Cab, you won't want to miss the 2009 Avalon from Napa Valley. Lower in alcohol than a lot of wines in this price point, the Avalon balances deep blackberry and currant fruit with nice breadth on the palate and well-integrated oak spice on the finish. Ready to drink whenever you're ready to drink it.

Sometimes it’s just too easy; sometimes wines just have a way of jumping in our customer’s hands all too often. The 2009 Avalon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is one of those wines. In fact it has been one of those wines for a number of consecutive vintages now. I was reminded recently of the reason why when I poured this wine in a recent Saturday tasting in the Redwood City store. It is frickin’ good! Like ice cream on a warm summer day good, like peanut butter and chocolate good. Sure, it is no Screaming Eagle, but this is rock solid affordable Cabernet for just over $10 a bottle sourced from vineyards through out the sub-appellations of the Napa Valley. Round, confectionary flavors dominate the wine with surprising polish for a wine of this ilk. Chocolate covered cherries, a touch of ground cinnamon, molasses and crème brûlée flavors combine for one tasty, juicy effort. The best part about all of this though is that it also has some seriousness and structure, finishing dry and with good melty yet holding tannins. Surely a wine that is always good to have a few bottles lying on hand.
