2005 Buty "Columbia Rediviva - Phinny Hill Vineyard" Horse Heaven Hills Red Blend (Previously $60)

SKU #1068901 93 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Polished, generous and beautifully focused to display its violet-tinged currant and blackberry flavors, lingering on the open-textured finish. This shows more of the texture and flavor profile of Cabernet than Syrah, and it works elegantly. Inner quote mark (2/2009)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2005 Columbia Rediviva is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Syrah, most of the fruit sourced from the Champoux Vineyard. Saturated purple in color, it has an alluring perfume of pain grille, scorched earth, mineral, black currant, and blueberry. Layered, concentrated, and elegant, this smooth-textured wine offers a persistent finish and several years of aging potential. It will provide peak drinking from 2011 to 2020. Caleb Foster, owner/winemaker of Buty (pronounced “beauty”) Winery, seems to evolve his talent with each passing vintage. The new releases are outstanding across the board. (JM) Inner quote mark (6/2008)

The first wine I tasted from the Buty library and one that got an emphatic star scribbled in my note book. Right from the first pour this wine was stunningly aromatic with wonderful floral tones of violets and dark roses. Brambly fruit and briar patch combine with some smoked meat qualities to really create a complex and intriguing wine. Similar wild berry fruits and bramble leaf qualities define the palate, lovely fruit purity and persistence with subtle leathery, cigar box development notes woven throughout. Showing beautifully at 16 years of age and likely will saunter past its 21st birthday with little fatigue. A phenomenal wine that set the stage for me to be bowled over by the quality of the Buty wines across the entire portfolio exceeding my expectations time and time again.
Drink from 2021 to 2030
